“We’ll figure it out” is a superpower until it becomes a ceiling.

Early on, that mindset is everything. No playbook? Figure it out. No budget for consultants? Figure it out. First time deploying to production? Figure it out. That scrappiness is how startups survive.
But somewhere along the way, figuring it out stops feeling like momentum and starts feeling like treading water.
The same problems keep coming back. Decisions get made, unmade, remade. The team is working harder but shipping slower. Everyone’s busy but nothing feels finished. You’re not sure if you’re building on solid ground or just piling sandbags.
This is the ceiling. And the hardest part is recognizing you’ve hit it because the same instinct that got you here keeps telling you to push through.
The ceiling isn’t a failure. It’s a phase change. What worked at ten customers doesn’t work at a hundred. What worked with three engineers doesn’t work with ten. The skills that got you here aren’t the skills that get you there.
Sometimes pushing through is right. But sometimes the faster path is admitting you’ve reached the edge of what you know and finding someone who’s already mapped the terrain ahead.
The founders who scale aren’t the ones who figured everything out themselves. They’re the ones who knew when to stop.
What made you realize you’d hit a ceiling?
