LambdaLynx: Architect Clarity. Build Momentum

React is Popular But Is Not Always Right

The most popular framework isn’t always the right one for your product. If your agency defaulted to React without a conversation, that’s worth a second look.

I’ll say the quiet part out loud: React is overrated for a lot of the products I see founders building. Not bad, overrated. It blends presentation and logic into a single bundle, collapsing a separation the industry spent years maintaining for good reason. When your business logic and your screen are tangled together, every change touches more than it should, and the cost shows up later as slower features and harder hires.

Here’s why a founder should care, even if none of that means anything to you. Popularity is a hiring signal, not a fit signal. A framework can be everywhere and still be the wrong call for your specific product. “It’s what everyone uses” is often code for “it’s what’s easiest for us to staff,” not “it’s what’s best for what you’re building.”

I work in Vue and Nuxt where the seams stay clean, and on plenty of projects that’s the better posture. But the framework isn’t the point. The point is whether someone chose deliberately or chose by default.

So the question that protects you isn’t “React or not?” You don’t need to adjudicate that. It’s “Why this, for my product, over the alternatives?” A team that can walk you through the tradeoff chose on purpose. A team that just says “it’s the standard” chose for themselves.

If your agency or first hire reaches for the popular thing and can’t tell you why, that’s not a technology problem. It’s a judgment problem, and judgment is the thing you’re actually paying for.
